THE
BACKSTORY
Two books. Two goals. After their success with the Great Adventure Bible and Bible in a Year podcast, Ascension Press was expanding its library with two different books: A Catholic Guide to the Old Testament, and the Pocket Guide to Novenas.
The Old Testament Guide needed to feel like a seamless part of the Great Adventure series: visually familiar to fans, easy to use as a reference. The Pocket Guide to Novena had to feel both prayerful and handy: easy to flip open and pray with anytime.

WHAT
WE DID
For the Old Testament Guide, we tapped into the popular color-coding system of the Great Adventure Bible. Then we layered on illustrations, timelines, and charts that make the book fun to flip through.
Since the goal of the Pocket Guide to Novenas was to help people pray in the busyness of everyday life, we used clean layouts, thoughtful typography, and a warm visual style.

WHY IT
WORKS
Both designs answer the unspoken question: “Will I actually use this?”
If you loved the Bible in a Year podcast, the Old Testament guide feels like a natural extension of your journey. With the Pocket Guide to Novenas, you have a book that’s small and portable with a classic Catholic look.

THE
RESULTS
Two very different books, same outcome: delighted readers who use these resources every day.
Together, they’re proof that good design can do more than just catch the eye. It can actually take you deeper into your faith.
